Smart products
Useful products for insight and control
Smart devices can show where energy goes and help you plan use. Choose for your home; a device saves energy only when it is set up and used well.
Smart plug
Measure an appliance and switch it on or off on a schedule.
Check firstMaximum load, Wi-Fi range and safe restart after a power cut.
InstallationUsually plug in yourself. Do not use with a power strip or heater unless the maker explicitly allows it.
P1 energy monitor
Shows live electricity use and export through your smart meter.
Check firstWhether the meter has a free P1 port and whether data is processed locally or in the cloud.
InstallationUsually self-install on the P1 port. A new circuit or meter-box work needs an installer.
Smart thermostat
Schedule temperature and control heating remotely. Nest is a well-known example.
Check firstBoiler type and connection (on/off or OpenTherm), wiring and radiator compatibility.
InstallationReplacement can sometimes be DIY; have a professional connect and test boiler wiring if unsure.
Smart radiator valve
Control rooms separately and heat only where and when needed.
Check firstValve type, space for the valve and cooperation with your thermostat.
InstallationFit yourself to a suitable valve. Have leaking or stuck valves checked first.
Smart lighting
Switch lights off automatically or react to time and presence.
Check firstFitting, dimmer compatibility and whether controls work without internet.
InstallationFit a smart bulb yourself. Fixed wiring work needs an installer.
Smart EV charging
Schedule charging for solar generation or off-peak hours.
Check firstCharger, car, meter box and energy contract must support the same charging feature.
