Financing

Finance your home improvement

If you do not have enough savings for a renovation, an external lender may let you spread energy measures over monthly instalments.

A loan is a financial commitment: you repay the amount with interest. Check that the monthly payment fits your budget first.

Discuss improvements with your mortgage lender

For a renovation, a mortgage increase or building fund may be an option. An adviser assesses your income, home value, energy label and current mortgage.

Ask about total costs, interest, term and the effect on monthly payments before signing.

Use home equity for improvements

Use home equity for improvements

If your home is worth more than your outstanding mortgage, you may be able to request an additional mortgage part or loan and use it for insulation, glazing, a heat pump or other improvements. The lender decides based on the home value, your income and existing commitments.

Ask for a calculation of the new monthly payment first. Also ask about valuation, advice and notary costs, and keep invoices for the work.

Prepare your application

Prepare your application

  1. 1Make a budget with quotes and leave room for unexpected costs.
  2. 2Check which subsidy or VAT rule can be combined with financing.
  3. 3Compare total repayment and monthly costs, not just the interest rate.
  4. 4Apply only when you know which measure will be installed and by whom.
