Start with heat demand
First assess how much heat the home needs and what temperature your radiators or floor heating can deliver.
Check these first
- Insulation level and heat loss You can do this: Review your energy label, drawings and visible draughts; note rooms that cool quickly. Professional help: An energy adviser can calculate heat loss for each building element.
- Radiators, floor heating and flow temperature You can do this: Read the boiler flow temperature on a cold day and note radiator types and sizes. Professional help: An installer checks emitter output, balancing and low-temperature operation.
- Space, noise and outdoor unit You can do this: Measure possible locations and consider where sound could reach neighbours or bedrooms. Professional help: An installer assesses placement, vibration, noise and permit requirements on site.
- Hot water and electrical connection You can do this: Note household size, hot-water use and your consumer unit/connection. Professional help: An installer sizes the cylinder and checks the electrical installation and grid connection.
